Archibald J. Treat correspondence : ALS, 1888-[1930] (bulk 1888-1906).

Consists of ten handwritten letters, most of which are to Treat from aquaintances and relatives in Paris, New York, and San Francisco, concerning paintings, pictures, sculpture, and the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Correspondents include Matilda Lotz, Edward Bosqui, William Keith, Douglas Tilden, and David Neal. Includes a letter (8 p.) from Treat to his sister, Eleanor Treat, dated Apr. 27, 1906, describing the San Francisco earthquake and fire. Also includes an undated letter from James Corbett, Long Island, expressing concern over Treat's 1930 accident. Typed transcriptions of the last two letters are included with the originals. With these is an annotated typescript draft by Treat about the Boxing Room at the Olymic Club, with pencilled comments by Laura Treat.

Bosqui, Edward, 1832-1917

Edward Bosqui (1832-1917) was born in Montreal and arrived in San Francisco in 1850. He founded the Bosqui Engraving and Printing Company in 1863 and was an organizer of the San Francisco Art Association in 1871, and was also an accomplished painter. His home in Marin County, in which he housed a large collection of California art (including his own) burned down in 1897, and in 1906 the Engraving and Printing Company was also destroyed by fire.
